The benefits of having this kind of agriculture is that the person or people growing it are able to adjust on the fly and grow anything that they want. If their cilantro and broccoli decide not to grow or the person messes something up, they can restart with a newly grown lettuce or hop on over to anywhere that sells baby plants and plant those instead. All these options are healthier and thinking in an economic view point, it is way more cost effective than going to a grocery store and buying what they could plant. Socially, growing your own plants is a way to get yourself into the sun and do some exercise by watering, planting, and other things that planters do. Environmentally, planting your own produce is good for the environment since you are usually not using tons of herbicide or inorganic fertilizer. Also growing the plants is good for the atmosphere and gives your home a more natural aesthetic to it.
Globally, the issues that arise with large scale production of produce is that not all of it gets used. When you create community gardens like we did, we used what we needed and left what we didn't need to continue growing. With large scale production, people may buy something that they forget to use or have too much of and just toss it, creating more trash that is wasted. Not only is food being wasted, but another problem with large scale production is the amount of carbon emissions and other environmental damages that the production can cause. These problems lead to the fact that more people should adopt small scale means of production, which can happen in your backyard. It may take more time and effort to get your food, but it is better for the environment and it tastes better since you put your own hard work and sweat into it!
